Looking back at 2007
2007...... i was eagerly waiting for 4 long years for 2007..... because i can finish my UG education in 2007.... i can start a new professional life and can stand on my own legs independently.....
i had so many dreams and wishes for 2007..... and worked almost 3 years for that......
But 2007, as i expected was not so productive as i expected... in fact it was a year that changed my lifetrack..... it was the year that i lost my dreams.... and year that taught me life is too hard.... and year that gave me many new friends.... and year that i started thinking about others in the world( as per one of my dearst friend i was too selfish those days)...... and year that made my heart so hard that i can smile on every thing very easily, what ever it is.....
Now just 6hrs left for the death of 2007 and birth of a new year....
at this moment i am looking back at 2007.....
The birth of 2007 was with a strike.....infact the death of 2006 too...i returned to college after christmas vaccations.... College was trying to wake up from the long sleep due one month long strike. but the things never changed.... the wall of seperation between students and management became thicker....
days passed very fast, with lectures, assignments, clinical postings, results, supplimentary exams and all.......
and atlast faced exams..... farewell party and thanks giving party were the moments that i cannot forget in my life....
more than professional problems, personal problems gave me trouble in this year....
it was year of losess for me.... the loss was so heavy and it made my life still for almost three months... it took long time for me to realise that what i lost will not get back in life again.... but it infact helped me now to become more strong....
I got many new friend in this year.... from their lives i learned many new things.... i came to know about many problems faced by sexual minorities and HIV/AIDS patients.... and decided to work for them as much as i can do..... i decided to organise my friends who are interested and working on it.... i found internet is best place to start. to find those who are interested in that i started to search in blogs and orkut profiles.... infact alone i dont have clear idea how i can work on it. i got some friend who have similar interests... and waiting for more...hope i can make out some thing...
So many problems hit our india and world this year..... Epidemics of chikunguniya in kerala, fall of government of karnataka, inaugration of smart city in kochi, problems of women enterin sabarimala temple and prasadam supply...... like that so many.... in these the worst i felt is the bad condition of National Highway 47 between palkkad and trissur in kerala... the worst down pour state faced this year made that road in a state that no piece of tar is left over.... i was raeding on papers about these roads and didnt realsied the seriousness of problem till i traveleed to kerala from bangalore in Shama Transport's Volvo.... some time in middle of night my sleep got disturbed due to tremors and a loud band sound.... i wondered seeing bus is trying to make its way through gutters....and sound was because volvo buses have a very low ground clearence and its bumper hits on road everytime it falls in a gutter.... same way i feared the sun roof above my head will collapse any time over me.... first i mistaken that bus is taking some short cut through some remote roads to avoid sales tax check post.... but to my surprise, i noticed the sign board showing "National Highways Authority of India- NH-47,,," i realised why high court judge commented 'roads are not in bad state.... infact there is no road itself". That night's journey was the worst i experienced in my four years life in bangalore.
And atlast the shocking incident of 2007.... Assasination of Benazir Bhutto.....
any way 2007 is bidding farewell burning so many people's dreams and efforts.....
Now waiting for birth of 2008.... with out much dreams and hopes as i belive there is no place for dreams and hopes.... so with out that i am trying to work for my family, for my country, for my world and for my fellow beings.... trying to find my happiness in that....
Happy New Year....

Tsunami and God's Own Country
Today is third anniversery of Tsunami disaster which hit Asia... Three years ago when the Tsunami hits the coast lines of Indian subcontinent and claimed lives of hundreds in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu, Kerala and Andaman- Nicobar Islands, for some hours we stood still.... with out knowing what is happening..... When realised the fact that we are experiencing the anger of nature in a new way, whole nation swing in to action..... Indian Prime Minister announced to world that we are able to handle the situation ourselves, and there is no need of any help from Foriegn country.... Together we fought to help our fellow beings to survive.... And it was succesful.... Thanks for all volantary agencies...
Three years over now.....
But in the coastlines of Kerala, there are still victims who are suffering....
The Government's relief activity is still pending.... Thanks for Amrithapuri Ashram and other voluntary organisations for providing shelter and basic support to the families who lost their houses and way of living....
In this third anniversary, Government of Kerala, inaugrated special package for fishermen and their family. will wait and see how the special package will work.... or this also will remain as the same show of bussiness like last two years.... will wait and see.....
This is called God's Own Country.... Now God vacated this place.... or may be he sold it out to Devil....

Being Gay or Lesbian is a Crime? Socialy or Legaly?
"There is a convention in the Sahitya Academy Hall on 20th December... topic is interesting.... why dont you just drop in buddy??????" My friend was asking seeing i was bored of simply sitting at home and scratching pimples.....
Its almost two months that i left Bangalore after my studies and sitting at my parents home, doing nothing..... Nothing means nothing, other than eating and sleeping.... I can go back to bangalore only January to Bangalore to look for a job. I was getting bored day by day and was feeling like getting my self puffy. So i took this as an oppurtunity to visit my friends. It was on last saturday i visited one of my dearest friend, who is learning to be a doctor, whom i found a good partner to talk for hours over a cup of coffee.
It was my first visit to city of Trichur, which is known as the cultural capital of Kerala. i found that city interesting. More than the city interesting was my buddy. we were talking on various things and the topics. really it was a great relief for me when i got some body whom i can talk freely. when he came to know that i am sitting at home simply and getting bored..... that moment he put me the question....
The Convention is about Sexual Self Determination Freedom and is organised by Sexual Rights Forum and Sahayathrika and some of the NGOs of same objectives.... and it is at Sahithya academy hall...
yaaaa..... i decided to participate..... but i got to travel almost 150 kms from my home in aleppey distrist to Trichur city. no probs..... its for good.... i know sexual minorities are facing big problems in india..... if i can do some thing for them it will be great.... more over as a health professional, more over a citizen of the great Republic of India, i have to help my fellow beings in distress.... My friend told me it will be a great oppurtunity to talk to social workers who are having same objective.... good.... i am going to attend this at any cost...
on that day, 20th December 2007, i started from my home in the morning itself... Dad droped me in the station and i agot in the train without much problem.... but unfortunately indian railways service was so excellent that i reached trichur only by 3 pm...... any way i reached in the city.... but need to find out where my friend is.... i called him and found the he too is on the way and we will be meeting in 20 mins in front of shaithya academy.... i am sure that i can attend only second talk....
i reached venue, and joined with my friend... we walked in and acquired a seat in the last row.... my freind is an active social worker and almost all others know him....
the talk was about the legal, social and moral problems of sexual minorities..... the talks were good.... but i felt that that was not enough to make any changes in the society.... but i know the fact that its not so easy..... its a step by step process..... may be this is the first step. but the audience is interacting,.... askinkg doubuts and having talks..... positive and negetive comments....
i found instead of going more interacted with the talk it will be better to talk with other social workers and organisers.... i walked out of hall with my friend.... i was introduced to so many others like minded.... i am not going to forget this day..... i had seen several types of charecters and undrestood how worse the problem is..... it really is.....
Being gay or Lesbian doesnt change a human being.... Its just natural. World is accepting homosexuality as a normal factor.... but In india it is not.... gays and lesbians are not accepted ny indian society. the worst problem is for guys with feminine charecters, as there is a chance that they are beoing used sexually and some times being abused physically or mentally.... Why this descrimination..... gays , lesbians they are human beings...... like all others they have right to live..... basic human right...... the problem is yet to be solved.....
Indian Law is against homosexuality..... Society also....But almost all world begins to accept homosexuality as a normal charecter, still indian society does not... Indian youth in cities are accepting this fact..... but it may be just 2 or 3 %.... but what about others....? Politicians are not making any efforts for sexual minirities ans its a matter that will burn their hand.... There will be so many people who will come with old victorian moral policing..... world is changed.... but society is still living in past.....
Did you found any change in his or her charecter or behaviour after coming to know that your friend, brother, sister, son or daughter is homosexual.....? did he or she will not be your friend, brother, sister, son or daughter??? No... homosexuals are born as homosexuals....... they will be your dear ones, if you come to know or if you will not.....
Who's mistake.....?
Is that of parents who gave birth to homosexuals??
Is that of homosexuals who are born like that???
Is that of society who is not accepting????
or
Is that of god who created them as homosexulas?????
If you find answer also......
What is the solution?
Treatment knowing that its not a disease??
Throwing them out of house or community???
Make them mentally unstable by torchering????
Killing them or forcing them to die themselves?????
Or
Accepting them as a your fellow beings and love them??????
Answer must be from the Society......
Answer must be from the creators of today's and tomorrows society.....
Answer must be from the youth of India.....
CPR..... learn it.... save lives....
Imagine you are driving down to the city from your office through a smooth, usually less traffic road, and witnesses a terrible road accident….
Whole day’s work force may prevent you from keeping your toes on the break pedal….. But the human being in you will make you think, how can I help? May be the result is you will dial 100 or you will dial the emergency services number that the radio jockey of your favourite FM channel in your car audio system announces periodically……
Of course that is a necessary measure…. Almost all cities in India have emergency services available to help in road accidents, like operation sanjeevni of Bangalore city, which even have a high-tech life support vehicle known as ICU on wheels….. and even the helicopters which serves as air ambulances are available in with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Manipal hospital and Sparsh Hospital…. Most of high-tech hospitals are providing their emergency care services including fully equipped ambulances, paramedics or even nurses and doctors… in case of growing cities like Kochi, voluntary services like Kochi city action force, which consists of auto and taxi drivers, who will swing in to action as soon as an accident occurs…..
But the condition of the victims of the road accidents may be in a way that they will keep themselves from not sinking till the professional help arrives….
You may be the first person who is in the spot after the accident or you may find so many others who are driving past with out looking in to that…. As an educated person you have responsibility to that fellow being or may be you will be in a situation like this some day….who knows….??…. Some times your timely action may help to save a life….
In the news papers daily you can find so many victims of accidents lying alone in the road, without getting proper attention or may be waiting for the arrival of the medical facility, or may be on the way to the hospital, due to lack of first aid….. There are some emergency measures that we can save a persons life. CPR or Cardio pulmonary resuscitation is one of the important life saving measures….
Not only in road accidents, but also due to many other causes like shock that we will encounter with a person in a death like appearance…. In most of such cases the heart beat and breathing will be nil… such a person cannot wait for the emergency services to be arrived…. So all the health care facilities in the world identifies CPR as the most important part of first aid….
In our Country India, we can find that the most citizens are unaware of CPR. In an aid to educate civilians about CPR, so many organisations organised various programs…. A group of Students of M.S Ramaiah Medical College Bangalore conducted a program to educate people of the Garden City, which is having the chain of medical facilities which are one of the best in the country. They successes in forming a help desk that people can help themselves in getting more information. Recently in state of Kerala, a program to train civilians in basic life support by the help of various medical colleges.

CPR consists of artificial ventilation accompanied by external cardiac massage is now considered as an emergency procedure that should be taught to all adults and older children.
When one encounters an unconscious person with a death like appearance the immediate step is to determine the person’s state of responsiveness, breathing and pulse. The rescuer shook the victim’s shoulders and shouts “Are you ok?”. If there is no response and breathing is absent and breathing is absent, the persons head is tilted back ward and the lungs are ventilated four times quickly with out waiting for full deflation between breaths. The carotid pulse ( pulse of the vein in the throat) is quickly palpated and if pulse is absent, 15 external cardiac compressions are given. The victim must be in a supine position on a firm surface for effective external cardiac compression. The rescuer kneels beside the victim lying in the floor or ground. If the victim is in the bed, the rescuer either stands beside beds, which ever position facilitates maintenance of straight arm position by the rescuer. The technique is as follows:
1. Place the long axis of the heel of one hand over the lower half of the victim’s sternum, about 4cm from the tip of the Xiphoid process.
2. Place the other hand on top of the first hand with the fingers interlaced.
3. Move forward with elbows straight so that the shoulders are directly over the victim’s sternum.
4. Excert pressure downward to depress the sternum 4-5 cm.
5. Release the pressure over the sternum with out removing hands.
6. Repeat the cycle at the rate of 60/minute. Compressions must be smooth and regular with relaxation of equal duration.
A single rescuer performing CPR uses a 15:2 ratio, or 15 external cardiac compressions followed by two quick lung inflations. CPR is best carried out by two persons. The person performing artificial ventilation quickly inflates the lung after every five chest compressions, with out any pause in chest compressions.
For small children, only one heel of one hand is used for cardiac compressions, and for infants only one tip of the index and middle fingers are used. Pressure is exerted over the middle of sternum rather than lower half as in adults. The infant’s chest is compressed to 1 to 2 cm and that of small child, 2 to 4 cm. The rate of compression is 80-100/minute, with quick ventilation after every five compressions.
During two person rescue the effectiveness of CPR is monitored periodically by the person performing ventilation. The carotid pulse, breathing and papillary response are checked. Pupils that respond to light indicates the victim’s brain is receiving oxygen. Pupils that remain fixed indicate that serious brain damage has occurred or is imminent. It must be remembered, however, that the person’s age and the use of drugs such as narcotics or atropine also affect papillary response.
Complications:
Injuries such as fractures of the ribs or sternum, laceration of the liver with internal bleeding, and injury to lungs, may be complications of CPR. Effective CPR is mandatory, even if it results in complications, since the alternative is death. Each and every life in the world is valuable, as that’s only one man cannot restore.

Nightingale Pledge and Nurses
The Nightingale Pledge, originally created in 1893 by a committee chaired by Lystra Gretter, is traditionally cited by nursing graduates during Honors or Pinning ceremonies. The Nurse's Pledge accompanies the Candle lighting segment of the ceremony.*This was first used by the Harper Hospital's (Detroit, Michigan) graduating class in the spring of 1893. This pledge is an adaptation of the Hippocratic Oath taken by physicians. There is no evidence that Florence Nightingale had input or knowledge of its content; however, it bears her name.
Nightingale pledge portraits the role and duties of nurses and also plays role of guide for nursing ethics.
Original Nightingale Pledge :
"I solemnly pledge myself before God and in the presence of this assembly: To pass my life in purity and to practice my profession faithfully; I will abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous and will not take or knowingly administer any harmful drug; I will do all in my power to maintain and elevate the standard of my profession and will hold in confidence all personal matters committed to my keeping and all family affairs coming to my knowledge in the practice of my calling; With loyalty will I endeavor to aid the physician in his work and devote myself to the welfare of those committed to my care."
In the modern world as the nursing evolved as one of the noblest and powerful profession of the modern world, new roles and responsibilities arised. This made a change in nightingale pledge which is seen some parts of world.
Any how lamp lighting and oath taking ceremony is considered as the most important event in an indian nurse's life.
